This week marks two important changes in the network leadership.
At KPFA, new General Manager Gus Newport assumes his responsibilities this week. I know the entire Pacifica community joins me in extending a warm welcome to Gus.
Outgoing iGM Jim Bennett will take over as acting KPFA Program Director for a three-month transitional period. He will continue to carry out his local and national operational duties during this time.
Many, many thanks and our deep gratitude to Jim for his tireless efforts, steady hands, and enduring commitment to KPFA during the very difficult last four years. Jim shepherded the station as iGM following the summer lock-out of 1999 and through the legal and political battles of 2000 and 2001. A truly remarkable achievement and one which will go down in the annals of US broadcasting history.
At WPFW, iGM Tony Regusters has decided to move on from the station to pursue long-cherished personal interests. Program Director Ron Pinchback, an 18-year veteran of WPFW, has assumed the caretaker role as interim General Manager. The LAB-led GM search process remains in motion.
I know many of you saw Tony's resignation letter which had kind words for staff, listeners, and community around the Pacifica system. There is nothing that I can add to that eloquent statement ... except, again, deep appreciation and many, many thanks to a dedicated Pacifican from all of us around the network. We salute Tony for his dedication, professionalism, and extraordinary accomplishments during this past year.
