MEMO TO: Members of the Interim Pacifica National Board cc: Dan Coughlin and Verna Avery-Brown FROM: Leslie Cagan, chair of the IPNB DATE: Monday, July 16, 2002 This is a reminder that a Special Meeting of the IPNB has been convened for tomorrow: TUESDAY, JULY 16th - at 10:30 am east coast time (9:30 am Houston time and 7:30 am west coast time) This meeting has been convened to discuss issues related to the contract between Pacifica and Democracy Now Productions. More specifically, the agenda for this meeting is:
a) Update on discussions with Democracy Now!
During this past week there have been several emails addressing the question of who the Board would like to ask to work with us and represent us as legal counsel in this matter. The Board has not yet made any decision about who we would like to work with, and therefore it is inappropriate for any Board member to invite a lawyer (or anyone else) to participate in Tuesday's conference call/meeting. In my notice of this meeting (dated 7/9/02) I said the meeting would be webcast. On further thought, I have decided this meeting will be held in executive session. [According to CPB rules, executive session is allowed, "to consider matters relating to individual employees, proprietary information, litigation and other matters requiring the confidential advice of counsel, commercial or financial information obtained from a person on a privileged or confidential basis, or the purchase of property or services whenever the premature exposure of such purchase would compromise the business interests of any such organization." (Fed Comm. Act., 47 USC 396 (1)(k)(4)] |
