From: paul_surovell Date: Fri Nov 8, 2002 5:27 am Subject: Tues LAB meeting votes on UC model -- 8 for, 417 against, 1 abstention At Tuesday's LAB meeting in a straw poll, 8 LAB members said they favored the Unity Caucus model over the KPFA model, with one abstention. At the same meeting, the WBAI Committee for a Unified Membership presented petitions with 417 signatures on Petitions calling for: (1) Local board elections diversity requirements of at least 50% peopole of color and at least 50% women. (2) Voting by those who support the Pacifica mission as listener- donors and volunteers and station staff (3) All listener-donors and volunteers should vote together as a unified membership and should NOT be divided into separate categories according to racial, ethnic and other identity criteria and should NOT be forced to vote for separate candidates according to those criteria. Points #2 and #3 oppose the essence of the Unity Caucus elections model and therefore can be counted as votes against the model. The Committee for a Unified Membership is continuing to collect signatures on its petition from WBAI listeners and staff. If you haven't signed the petition yet, please copy the petition below, insert your name at the bottom and email the petition to
